South Chicago Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony
What began in 2024 as South Chicago's very first Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony has quickly become a beloved neighborhood tradition.
Originally made possible through ComEd's Powering the Holidays Grant, the event was created to bring a cherished holiday tradition to South Chicago—one that celebrates community pride, belonging, and the unique identity of the neighborhood. The tree lighting serves as a visible reminder that South Chicago deserves the same festive investments and opportunities enjoyed throughout the city.
In 2025, the celebration continued to grow thanks to the support of an even larger coalition of community partners, organizations, volunteers, and neighbors who came together to make the evening possible. Their collaboration transformed the event into more than a tree lighting—it became a celebration of the people, organizations, and partnerships that make South Chicago strong.
Families gathered to enjoy holiday festivities, connect with neighbors, and celebrate the season together in a welcoming public space. As the tree was illuminated once again, it stood as a symbol of hope, resilience, and the bright future we are building together.
We are deeply grateful to every partner, volunteer, performer, sponsor, and attendee who helped make this year's celebration a success. Together, we are creating traditions that strengthen our community and remind everyone that South Chicago shines.
