The Perfect Moment

To me, dreams and aspirations are boundless. They stay with us, waiting for the perfect moment. For this illustration, I drew a fearless young woman atop an iridescent white horse, leaping through a golden, glowing world. Both figures are clad in hearts, gold, and iridescence. The hearts represent dedication, and the gold and iridescence symbolize the joy that comes with achievement. Surrounding them are ornate golden circles, symbolizing wholeness and unity. Framing them are red ribbons, uniting our hearts together. The young woman and her steed leap among the golden circles, their eyes on the horizon. She reaches ahead, eager to explore beyond limits.

For this illustration, I decided to draw a disheartened woman staring at a distorted, ghastly reflection. Or, rather, a ghastly reflection is staring at a disheartened woman. This mirror self screams at the woman, demanding an answer to its question: “What’s wrong with you?!” Too often do we become trapped in self-doubt, preventing us from reaching our true potential. I chose to draw from the reflection’s point of view, raising the question of who is the real woman and who is merely a reflection. I focused on a swirling composition with the golden frame and necklace to convey the woman’s spiraling thoughts. The text “REFLECT” is designed to begin splitting into two, encouraging the viewer to distinguish their true self from their negative self-perception. Ultimately, my artwork symbolizes how we lose our sense of who we really are when haunted by self-doubt.

She has several forms, but chooses to go with this particular version because it seems to be the “friendliest” looking option for interacting with humans and other beings. In moments of extreme frustration, it becomes difficult to even speak. We often feel a tightness in our jaw, throat, and tongue, and tears threaten to follow. During these moments, we strain ourselves trying to steady our voice while fighting back tears. The discomfort brought by this struggle is the feeling I wanted to capture in this illustration.

A “broken record” is a simile referring to a constant, displeasing repetition of a particular opinion. In this case, it’s one’s own thoughts, constantly overthinking and overanalyzing trivial events, over and over again. The chaos surrounding the calm face in the portrait reveals that even though one seems composed on the outside, they could actually be in a state of anxiety and panic on the inside. The gilded butterfly could fly unrestrained, but the gold pattering down on its wings prevents it from doing so.

About Arcoris:Although he likes to goof off with those around him and cackles at the cheesiest puns, Arcoris is a very hardworking detective. He often pulls all-nighters at the office when focused on investigations. Eli usually stays up to take care of him during these times, bringing him water and snacks and such.He can scale anything, at any time. There have been many instances where Arcoris was seen climbing while wearing bunny slippers. During a vacation on a cruise ship, he competed in a rock climbing race against an elderly man who possessed the attributes of a mountain goat. Arcoris lost. Perhaps he needed to climb more.

About Eli:He is calm and cool, but also warmhearted. He helps his coworkers out around the facility, whether it be tech support, moral support, or delivering pastries from the bakery down the street. He has a quiet disposition and zones out a lot, but will get the job done.His hands have electrical currents running through them. Direct contact can have shocking consequences. As a result, Eli always wears gloves.No matter how distraught someone might be, the cadence of Eli's voice is said to have an immediate calming effect. Following some friends' suggestions, he uploaded some videos of himself singing to his social media. He became an online sensation overnight.
