Our team
Meet the people who run the Remote3 programme and enjoy playing with Lego.
I’m a professional hunter of the invisible and I spend my time building large detectors to try and catch mysterious and illusive Dark Matter particles in some of the deepest science facilities around the world.
I’m a professor at the University of Edinburgh. I’ve managed to make a career out of playing with things like dark matter, neutrinos, exploding stars and lego. It’s a lot of fun. Why don’t you join me?
I am a Reader in Particle Physics, a dark matter hunter and lead the Remote3 project at Edinburgh! If I’m not deep underground, I like to be in the opposite direction - up in the mountains!
I am a nuclear physicist working in public engagement and spend a lot of time using LEGO to excite people about science! I help to manage the Remote3 programme for the University of Edinburgh.
I manage the Public Engagement Team at the Rutherford Appleton Laboratory. I like to read, go walking in the highlands and do not approve of early morning chocolate.
I work as part of the Public Engagement Team at the Rutherford Appleton Laboratory. My work sometimes involves using Lego to explain science and I’m very passionate about this project. In my spare time, I also knit dinosaurs!
I’m a Senior Systems Administrator at the Rutherford Appleton Laboratory. I work on a super-data computing cluster called JASMIN, which is used by environmental scientists to look at weather, climate change, air quality and the environment around us.
For Remote3 I provide technical expertise, help run the project, and make sure your robots are running well when we test them underground.
I'm a Group Leader within Scientific Computing, part of STFC at Rutherford Appleton Laboratory. My group designs, develops and operates infrastructure services, which underpin science activities across the UK - and internationally! As a lifetime LEGO fan on top of this, I help the team with the technical side of the robots, ensuring that the LEGO platform works for our schools. When I'm not tinkering with computers or LEGO, I'm probably helping to Judge Trading Card and Video Game competitions!
I work at Boulby Underground Laboratory where I am the senior science technician. I manage an awesome lab called BUGS that looks for tiny amounts of radiation in materials that will be used to build Dark Matter detectors plus much more. I also manage our outreach and public engagement where I get to spend my time building LEGO robots and creating fun activities for kids and adults alike. When I’m not at work I spend most of my time with my two kids and hubby, our 3 horses and four dogs!
I am Engagement Officer at Boulby Underground Laboratory, meaning I coordinate all things outreach on behalf of the lab. This involves planning coding workshops in schools, delivering virtual tours of the underground lab, and looking after visitors when in the underground lab.
I am a Business Admin Apprentice at Boulby Underground Laboratory. When I am not supporting deep-underground science, I'm sharing my love for Space and Lego with the next generation of engineers. I Help remote schools across Scotland build and test their own Mars rovers, proving that space exploration starts with a single brick.

To help support this amazing project you can donate to Remote3 via the University of Edinburgh's fundraising site.
Your contribution helps us to inspire the next generation of STEM scientists - no matter how remote!
Remote3 is free for schools thanks to funding from a Public Engagement Award from the Science & Technology Facilities Council (STFC) part of UK Research and Innovation (UKRI).
