Since my sophomore year, I have been working with the UW Housing and Food Services as a Resident Advisor (RA) across various on-campus residence halls. The purpose of this role is to create a welcoming and inclusive environment for residents living in the dorms. In my role, I have been able to use my conflict resolution still and create a sense of responsibility towards fostering a positive living environment for all residents in the residential hall. This experience has been valuable to me because it has allowed me to practice my helping skills, since I enjoy supporting people in the long run. The experience has also allowed me to develop relationships with residents and other RAs over the years. Being an RA has provided me with the opportunity to serve as a student leader within the residential community.
In this role, I have had the opportunity to make a positive impact on others. As a student leader, I have addressed a variety of needs from residents, including resolving roommate conflicts, addressing maintenance issues, and providing residents with one-on-one support. This aligns with my passion for being a leader and helping others, and I plan on using this experience as a steppingstone for when I graduate and work full-time in the corporate world. It also aligns with my goals of developing interpersonal skills and subsequently utilizing them in the long run.

Balancing authority with approachability, I learned the importance of guiding and empowering others to contribute their best. The ability to delegate responsibilities, oversee their execution, and maintain a positive and inclusive atmosphere has laid a solid foundation for effective leadership and team management in future endeavors.

Active and empathetic listening has been at the core of my role as a Resident Advisor. Addressing residents' concerns, providing personalized support, and collaborating with peers required a keen understanding of diverse perspectives.
