The Guthrie Family Scholarship Fund (GFS) was established to honor the legacy of Mary and Willie Guthrie and the values they instilled—education, excellence, resilience, and a deep commitment to community. Their journey, from the South to Gary, Indiana, laid the foundation for generations of achievement and service.
Through this fund, scholarships are awarded annually to students from Gary, Indiana and South Haven, Michigan who demonstrate strong academic performance, leadership, and a dedication to giving back. In addition to financial support, recipients benefit from mentorship and guidance through the Guthrie Family Collective, a network committed to helping students succeed in college and beyond.
In memory of Carlton Guthrie, the Guthrie family invites you to support this meaningful legacy. Your donation helps expand access to higher education, empower future leaders, and continue a tradition of mentorship, opportunity, and generational impact.Every gift—large or small—directly supports students as they pursue their dreams and build brighter futures.
GAPS was built on the belief that Gary's greatest strength is its people. We bring alumni, families, educators, and partners together to support students with the experiences, relationships, and opportunities they need to thrive.
Our Mission: To prepare Gary students for life after graduation by connecting them to meaningful experiences, caring adults, and future-ready pathways.
Our Vision: A connected ecosystem where every student can see what's possible, choose a path, and grow into a confident, capable adult with community behind them.
The Concerned Christian Men seeks to inspire and guide young African American males living on the south side of Chicago to become successful leaders and contributors to society.
We empower them to rebuild and better their communities and challenge them to become men of integrity, establish academic and career goals, and give back to those around them. Our primary goal has always been to provide strong “Black Male” guidance and leadership to boys in grades 4th-8th.
Our goal is to help shape them into positive, contributing members of society, keeping them focused on school and off the streets.
Services will be held at Trinity United Church of Christ (400 W 95th St, Chicago, IL) at 2:00 - 3:30PM (CT)
Services will be live streamed on Trinitiy's website.
