Dave loved animals, and shared his home with countless dogs, cats, horses, cows, and more. He gave readily to many animal-based nonprofits, and to Best Friends most regularly.

Dave was a 4-Her in his youth. His daughters were both in 4-H, and he led clubs and volunteered as an adult. He continued supporting 4-H throughout his life.

Dave was diagnosed with Waldenstrom's Macroglobulinemia, a form of Non-Hodgkin lymphoma in 2013. This fund is dedicated to research and was a favorite charity of Dave's.
