Quito - Ecuador
We are a group of professors and students of Universidad San Francisco de Quito- Ecuador. Ana Maria Carrion, Karina Cazar, Jaime Lopez and Mauricio Luzuriaga, as full-time professors in the School of Architecture and Interior Design (CADI), initiated a research based on the actual pandemic in Latin America considering the questions and opportunities it raised on the architectural field. Each one worked with a group of four students to create 4 distinct urban and architectural proposals for Quito, considering its various topographical and environmental conditions. Our main concern raised the question of what this age of crisis will mean for a Latin American city with scarce economic resources, leaded by unstable governments that do not provide security nor health to its inhabitants. It is our responsibility as architects, professors, and students, to question our role in the future development of a city in crisis in order to assure a secure a sustainable future for its citizens.
