Rehan Younas

Graduate Student | University of Notre Dame, IN, USA

I'm a research assistant in Electrical Engineering Department at University of Notre Dame, IN, USA. I am affiliated with Hinkle Lab under the supervision of Prof. Christopher Hinkle.

Prior to this, I worked as a research assistant in Electrical Engineering Department at Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS), Pakistan where I was affiliated with Semiconductor and Nanoelectronic Devices (SND) Lab under the supervision of Prof. Nauman Zafar Butt.

My research deals with Quantum and Semiconductor Materials' Synthesis and Characterization. In particular, I am working on 2D magnetic materials for beyond CMOS systems and applications. Earlier I have worked in the area of computational modeling of photovoltaic devices. I am always excited to work in an environment where theory and experiment work in conjunction.

More specifically, I'm interested in the following topics:

  • Molecular Beam Epitaxy

  • 2D Magnetic Materials

  • Beyond CMOS Technology

As a formal introduction of my educational background, I did my bachelors in electrical engineering from University of Engineering and Technology (UET), Lahore, Pakistan in August.2016. As a next step towards my eventual goal of a Ph.D., I joined Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS), Pakistan and graduated with a masters degree in electrical engineering in June.2018.

Research Mantra

In my research journey, I have seen that people usually consider high efficiency to be the ‘only’ way to go. I believe that the cheapest, easiest and the most efficient technology should be the ‘actual’ way to go. That is why, I'm always in a quest to make state-of-the-art technologies to be more accessible.
