Welcome to Understanding Australia & NZ: Nature, Culture, and Global Parallels.
This course is not a conventional history or geography tour. Instead, we will embark on an intellectual expedition to uncover the profound and often overlooked interplay between landscape and identity. We will explore how the stunning, demanding, and unique environments of Australia and New Zealand have fundamentally shaped the cultures, stories, languages, and self-perceptions of their peoples.
Our journey is built on a three-part methodology:
Regional Studies: building a solid foundation in the geographical and historical realities.
Linguo-Cultural Analysis: decoding the stories told through key concepts and place names.
Comparative Framework: placing these insights into a global context to reveal both universal patterns and uniqueness.
Scheme 1. Developing multicultural competence components via an e-course
By the end of this course, you will possess not only facts, you will have a way of seeing and analyzing the world that reveals how power, memory, and meaning are inscribed onto the land itself. This skill is applicable far beyond the shores of the South Pacific.
