FAQ

Below you may find the answers to some questions you may have about the seminar.

When do seminars take place?

Typically, every two weeks during term time on Wednesday afternoon. Each session has a duration of one hour and a half, with two designated talk slots. Each slot consists of a 30 minute time for the talk plus an allocated 10 minute Q&A time. There is a 5 minute break in between talks. Alternatively two participants can build a team and use both slots to give a joint mini course. After the seminar, everyone is welcome to stay for an informal meeting.

Who can participate in the seminar?

We welcome any Mathematics PhD student to participate, with special emphasis on PhD students in Leipzig. Post-docs are also welcome to participate. If you fall in the previous categories, are visiting Leipzig, and want to attend the seminar, we will be very happy to welcome you!

Who can give a talk?

Priority will be given to those who frequently participate in the seminar. However, if you are visiting Leipzig and want to give a talk please let us know and we will try to open a slot for you.

What are talks about?

The only golden rule is to bear in mind that the material of the talks should be accessible for everyone in the audience. The audience consists of PhD students in mathematics coming from a wide range of backgrounds and areas. Under this premise, we welcome talks introducing an area of Mathematics, talks about one's research projects or talks about some cool math topic. We are also open to new innovative ideas.
