Privacy Policy for Reginald!

Reginald! ("the App") is developed by Martin Flett (‘You Never Know Ideas’) as a commercial app. This page informs users of the policies regarding whether the App collects, uses, and/or discloses the Personal Information of its users.

1. No Personal Data Collection

Reggie is designed with no user accounts, logins, or profiles to ensure privacy is at its core. No data or information entered to the App is stored anywhere other than your local device, or transmitted elsewhere unless you explicitly choose to do so via the Sharing functionality found in some of the App's features, as outlined in point 3.

2. Local Storage of Sensitive Data

The App allows you to input sensitive information, including:

• Medication, and its schedule and logs, using the “Next Pill” pill tracker.

• Emotion and mood information and tracking details, and / or journal entries using the “Emotions Check” tool.

• Task reminders and associated notes using the “Said-to-Do” tool.

• Saved web links and associated notes using the “WebScraps” tool.
  
  

All data is stored locally on your device using secure Android storage methods (Room databases, Shared Preferences, and JSON files). This information never leaves your device unless you explicitly choose to share or export it elsewhere.

3. User-Initiated Sharing and Exporting

Some of the App’s functions allow you, the user, to send or save information to other apps by sharing it using the standard Android Share functionality. You may choose to share the following from within the app:

• Single emotion tracking records.

• Single journal entries.

• All journal entries.

• Individual tasks you have noted.

• Records of tasks you have undertaken and completed.

• A copy of any / all data and information stored in the app, primarily intended for back-up purposes.
  
  

Important: These actions are entirely user-initiated. The App cannot and does not automatically transmit this data; it only provides the interface for you should you wish to send your data to a chosen recipient, service, or destination.

4. Internet Access and WebViews

Reginald! includes a list of “Useful Links” which you may choose to click to access those websites using your phone’s default browser. None of the data you enter into the App is sent by it to those websites should you follow any of those links. 

The “WebScraps”’ tool within the App includes the option to view any links you have saved to it using a small WebView. When you click on one of your saved links, a WebView will open to display the website. This accesses the "open internet."

No Tracking: the App does not track your browsing history or collect data from the websites you visit via the WebView. The App automatically clears all temporary data, history, and cookies from the WebView immediately upon its closure.

Any websites accessed, either via the “Useful Links” or “WebScraps”, will have their own privacy and data collection policies which govern their use. You should ensure you are familiar with and accept their policies before continuing to use those sites. Martin Flett / You Never Know Ideas is not responsible for any of your data or information subsequently collected or shared by, or with, those sites should you choose to access them.

5. Permissions

Reginald! requests specific device permissions to function:

Exact Alarms: 

Used to provide time-critical reminders for:

• Medication you have entered to be taken at its specific time.

• Emotion tracking reminders at the specific times you choose.

• Tasks you have entered to be reminded to do at specific times.

• Time intervals you specify for time management purposes.
  
  

Should you choose to not grant this permission, the reminders and alerts provided by these functions may be delayed by Android’s battery management functions.

Notification Listener:

Used within the "Focus Time" tool to dismiss unwanted notifications during focus sessions.  The function is solely used to immediately dismiss any notification you do not wish to be disturbed by during your focus sessions, and to provide you with information on any such notifications received following that session. No information or data is ever transmitted anywhere by Reginald! from any notification it may access, nor is it stored beyond the specific focus session during which it is accessed. The function is provided for Reginald!-only as an alternative to using Android’s own system-wide “Do Not Disturb” and “Interrupt” features for the App, as well as to prevent notifications and distractions being sent during focus sessions to any smartwatch devices you may use, which do not always automatically follow the phone’s “Do Not Disturb” status.

Should you choose to not grant this permission, "Focus Time" will function as normal but without the facility for it to dismiss notifications .

Notifications: 

Used to alert you of the following:

• Medication you have entered to be taken at its specific time.

• Emotion tracking reminders at the times you choose.

• Tasks you have entered to be reminded to do.

• Timers used during task completion.

• Time intervals you specify for time management purposes.

• Features that have recommenced their scheduled alerts following a system reboot or App update.

Additional permissions used not requiring user permission:

• Access Do Not Disturb: to allow the user the option of allowing the Time Aware tool to send time alerts when the device is set to 'Do Not Disturb'.

• Run at startup: to allow any of the Reginald! app's alerts and notifications which the user had set prior to the device reboot to be rescheduled automatically by the app, and to post a notification information the user of the tools for which reminders or alerts have been restarted.

• Have full network access: to enable to WebView within the WebScraps tool to access the open web at the user's request.

• View network connections:  to enable the WebView within the WebScraps tool to find the current network connection when required,

• Control Vibration: to allow the Time Aware tool to vibrate the device according to the times and patterns specified by the user.

• Prevent phone from sleeping: to wake the device from 'Doze' mode, and keep it awake, for each of Time Aware's vibration alerts for the length of time required for it to occur, before allowing the device to reenter 'Doze' mode according to system settings. This is due to the device-vibrator requiring the device to be wake before it can be used.

None of the permissions requested by Reginald! are used to collect or harvest user data.

6. Developer Contact

The "Contact" feature opens your default email client to send an email to reginalddev@reggie.me.uk. No data from your app is automatically attached to the email; it only pre-populates the recipient address and a subject line.

7. Third-Party Services

If you use Android’s built-in system backup to Google Drive, your local app data may be included in that system-wide backup. This process is governed by your device's Google Account settings and Google’s Privacy Policy.

8. Changes to This Policy

This Privacy Policy may be updated from time to time.

Martin Flett (known as 'You Never Know Ideas' for trade purposes) reserves all rights. No unauthorised reproduction or 'passing off' is permitted.

 If you're not sure if you're allowed to use something, feel free to ask – I'm usually quite reasonable, as long as it's after 10am…
