The world is a place full of people who flee their countries every day to save their lives because they are persecuted for their way of thinking, for their political militancy, for their ethnicity, for their gender, for their sexual orientation or for many other reasons that threaten their freedom and security. According to the United Nations, there are nearly 90 million refugees on the planet nowadays. Syria, Afghanistan, Ethiopia, Ukraine, Somalia, Palestine… have become famous due to the tragedies experienced in these countries in recent decades
That is why teachers from 3 high schools in France, Italy and Spain with common concerns, got in touch through the educational platform School Education Gateway and began to develop an Erasmus+ exchange project. It is planned for the 2023-2024 academic year and the main focus of study is the situation of refugees in our countries and our closest environments. From a local perspective we aim to understand a global phenomenon that permanently affects us and about which, many times, our students only know clichés, stereotypes and fake news that emerge in our daily lives through traditional media and social networks. With this objective, to dismantle myths and falsenesses, and get closer to the truth and reality of the human drama that is hidden behind the story of each refugee, we aim to understand the problem in depth by analyzing real data obtained from reliable sources, studying the causes that lead a person to request political asylum in a country, the consequences of the process on their personal life and empathize with the direct testimonies of refugees who have settled in our places of residence. The comparative study of 3 realities as different as an institute in a French big city -Lyon- and two educational centers in two small cities such as Cittanova (Italy) and Jaca (Spain), will allow us to understand better the migration policy of the European Union and some of the political and humanitarian challenges that our students will face in their future.
Analyse and compare the situation of refugees in Spain, Italy and France; and relate it to the migration policy of the European Union.
Share and strengthen through education democratic values of the three countries participating in the project.
Develop communication skills in English (vehicular language of the project)
Practice empathy, tolerance, respect, cooperation and solidarity towards others in general and towards refugees in particular.
