Hunter Industrial fans, with their 50,000-blade capacity and advanced dual-axis operation, are among the most effective air conditioners on the market today. High-volume, low-velocity fans are generally 50 percent more powerful than their low-voltage counterparts. This is essentially a fancy way of stating that fans transfer more air with much less energy (in horsepower for those of you Keeping Score). So, if you have ever wondered how the heck your air conditioner is keeping cool without all the extra energy needed to do it, the answer is quite simple: Hunter industrial fans run cooler because they use less energy.
Sounds unbelievable, right? Let's examine the technology behind this amazing discovery.
Basically, the flow of air is determined by the position and angle of the blade or fan in relation to the flow direction. The direction of airflow is dictated by the velocity of the rotating shaft and the heating or cooling effect of the surroundings. These effects are often controlled or altered using varying voltages. Low voltage fans often circulate air more efficiently than high voltage ones, which allows them to operate at lower temperatures. High voltage fans, however, can operate at higher temperatures because of the extra energy needed to counter the warming effect of heated objects.
The speed of the blade and its position in relation to the airflow direction dictate the temperature of the circulated air. If the fans in the Hunter facility operate at a rate that exceeds the maximum allowable speeds, the heated air from the heating and cooling fixtures will not be allowed to circulate through the facility's wet floors and will instead cause damage to the flooring. This type of airflow restriction is the reason why many facilities, such as those in the Department of Defense, have been banned from using these types of fans in their heating and cooling facilities.
Industrial HVLS fans in the Hunter facility have two basic phases of operation.
The first phase is where all the fans are working simultaneously, which is called a single mode facility. This is the most efficient way to cool and circulate the air in the Hunter facility, especially if the fans are operated in close proximity to each other. In this phase of operation the temperature of the outdoor flooring is balanced by the indoor temperature of the fans.
The second phase of operation is the opposite - in this phase the outdoor temperatures are allowed to become too hot and the indoor temperatures become too cold.
Both of these conditions, referred to as "interference," can lead to significant disruptions in the performance of the industrial fan. Interference caused by thermal obstructions occurs when there are too many of these obstructions in the airflow path of the fan. The "blocked" airflow travels in an inefficient manner, causing less air movement and consequently, a cooler indoor temperature. The speed of the blade's rotation is therefore disrupted, and performance can become noticeably affected as well.
The interference issue can be resolved in one of two ways: either the obstruction must be removed from the airflow path, or the blade must be re-shaped to correct the problem. This is not a difficult task and does not require any skill or expertise. If the obstruction is simply removed, the fans will operate effectively at the same speed without any interruptions in the airflow. If the obstruction needs to be replaced, the blades can be re-shaped to make sure that the flow remains an efficient and unobstructed process. This type of operation, when performed properly, ensures optimal performance and meets the exact requirements of Hunter Industrial HVLS fans and their fans suppliers.
