Mariah Roman is a visual artist and creative director based in Orlando, Florida. Working across photography, quilting and textile arts, and graphic design, their practice centers on archiving stories of lineage, family, community, and culture. Through image-making and fabric-based works, Mariah weaves personal and collective memory into tactile and visual narratives that honor lived experience.
Their photography practice moves between digital and analogue 35mm film. Through portraits and street photography, they document communities with care and intention. Inspired by artists such as Jamel Shabazz and Carrie Mae Weems, their work centers humanity, beauty, and storytelling — using photography as a tool for reflection, connection, and healing. Roman’s practice is grounded in storytelling that helps people feel seen, and honored through the lens of a camera.
Rooted deeply in community, Mariah also serves as a curator and creative director. They are the co-founder of Art of Collab, a community-driven organization that cultivates creative spaces and produces collaborative public art murals and installations throughout Central Florida, including Eatonville, Parramore, and beyond.
Mariah is also the co-founder of (RE)frame, a platform dedicated to lens-based photographers and filmmakers that fosters exhibitions, artist talks, and skill-sharing workshops — creating space for dialogue, visibility, and creative exchange.
