The history of Reed Brothers Dodge is virtually the history of the American automobile business.
Reed Brothers Dodge was founded in October 1915; less than one year after the very first Dodge car was invented. Reed Brothers was the oldest Dodge dealership in the State of Maryland and the second oldest in the entire United States. The dealership was originally located at the junction of Rockville & Georgetown Turnpike and Washington (Veirs Mill) Road in Rockville from 1915-1970, during which it expanded from a small-scale garage and dealership to one of the largest and most recognized commercial enterprises on Rockville Pike.
For almost a century, Reed Brothers Dodge rose and fell with the tides of the auto industry. From World War I, through the Great Depression and World War II, to economic recessions and numerous Chrysler financial setbacks during the 1970s and 80s, the business stood the test of time.

Reed Brothers Dodge operated from two locations in Rockville. Three generations of the Reed family operated one of the most successful and well-known local businesses, expanding the original Veirs Mill Road complex several times, then relocating to a new facility on the Rockville Pike near Derwood in 1970. Reed Brothers Dodge stood at this location for more than 40 years until its closure in 2012.
The dealership’s historical legacy continues to this day on the site of its former location, which is now the Bainbridge Shady Grove Metro Apartments. Bainbridge pays homage to this history by celebrating the golden age of the automobile with commemorative art on the former site of the iconic Reed Brothers Dodge dealership.
