August 2019,
The Amazon rain forests are burning. Some call the Amazon rain forests the "lungs of our planet". Politicians in South America want the lands for grazing cattle for beef and planting soy plants or to build homes and high tech centers.
There is a lot of controversy and conflicting reports on the internet.
What we do know is that animals, plants and tribes of people are losing their homes and dying. It is a tragedy any way you look at it.
What the future impact will be on the planet we do not yet know.
THIS UNIT WILL BE A BIT DIFFERENT.
There is no debate question here as so much isn't known about this and it is all very very new.
There is no READ/WRITE separately. I have put them together to allow for students to find their own facts and share with the class.
Knowledge is power and better to have more information and make a decision than try to form an opinion based on one or two articles alone.
Search Google for: Future impact of the Amazon fires
Choose an article (not wikipedia)
Read the article with a friend and write down 10 facts you learned from the article.
Present the information to the class
Put it up on the #REED4ThePlanet board.
