My church congregation (I'm a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints) has been involved with helping resettle refugee families for several years now by providing household items to equip their new homes here in Syracuse. It might just be my favorite thing that my church group does (see my logo & branding work with Their Story Is Our Story: Giving Voice to Refugees here). For 2019 they wanted to step it up a notch and try to enlist friends and neighbor help, and asked for a flyer that was hand-out-to-strangers-worthy. :)
They manage the donations via a public Google Doc, and I tell ya - you must be FAST to sign up to donate items because the slots get filled quickly! I love that my fellow church members are always so eager to help out and welcome these new families to our country and community that we have to, in effect, race each other to be able to do so!
There are an estimated 68.5 million refugees in the world today, which means that 1 in every 110 humans has been forced to flee their homes. Half of these are children.
