The Cedar High School Pep Band is known across the state as the loudest, rowdiest, and classiest student support group around! We create an incredible home crowd advantage for our Varsity football and basketball teams. We also play at several assemblies and school events throughout the year.
FAQs
Why should a student participate in Pep Band? There are at least two answers to this question. 1) IT'S FUN!!! The Pep Band is a big, loud, super fun family. We play awesome music, cheer hard, and enjoy every minute of every game. We also eat a lot of food! 2) Pep Band fulfills the "Personal Development Project" requirement in every band class. (Bonus: Kids who play in Pep Band develop many positive qualities such as social and musical growth, work ethic, interpersonal skills, and time management.)
Who can play in Pep Band? Every member of the CHS Bands is eligible to participate in Pep Band, no matter their instrument. They must be registered in a band class at Cedar High School.
What are the requirements? Pep Band members must have at least 80% attendance at all rehearsals and games to maintain their membership in the band, with no unexcused absences.
What are the expectations? Members of the Pep Band represent Cedar High School to schools, students, and adults from all over the state. They are expected to adhere to the Pep Band Expectations.
When are the rehearsals? Pep Band meets from 7:00 to 7:45 AM every school day for the first five weeks of the school year for rehearsals, plus 2-3 refresher days in December before basketball season starts. Other than that, there are no regular rehearsals for Pep Band.
When are the performances? The main role of the Pep Band is to play at all home Varsity football and basketball games, and playoff games where appropriate. (For this year's calendar, click here.) We also play at a few assemblies and other school functions throughout the school year.
Does Pep Band travel? Yes. During the regular season, Pep Band usually only plays at home games. For playoffs, we will travel when invited, or when we play at a neutral site (eg - state basketball tournament, late football playoff rounds). When necessary, this includes hotel stays.
Is there a cost associated with Pep Band? There is a nominal cost to help cover the Pep Band t-shirt, and students pay for their portion of a hotel room when necessary. Otherwise, there is no cost associated with Pep Band.
What constitutes an unexcused absence? Two answers: 1) A no-show, or "ghost," for any reason is considered unexcused. 2) Avoidable conflicts such as homework, a job, or other non-school activity are usually considered unexcused. Exceptions may be made on a case by case basis.
Can an absence be made up? Generally, yes. Some excused absences do not require a make-up (legitimate emergencies, or a conflict with another required school activity or Varsity sport), and others (family trips, sickness, etc.) can be made up with a Missed Performance Form.
