It is the goal of Redlands East Valley High School to train Cross Country athletes in a progressive manner. This is why we start our program during the summer.
The first phase of training is Base Building (June through mid July)- athletes will progressively increase their weekly mileage and the length of their weekly long run.
The remainder of the summer, athletes will continue to increase their base training with weekly mileage increasing and other forms of training introduced including tempos, speed training, hill training, drills, etc.
Workouts are scheduled to accommodate summer school and non-summer school athletes.
Saturday workouts are also highly encouraged, especially for varsity runners.

Saturday practices are highly encouraged for all level athletes. Varsity and lead group athletes are expected to attend Saturday AM workouts.
LOCATIONS MAY CHANGE DURING THE COURSE OF THE SUMMER. ATHLETES WILL BE PROVIDED ADVANCE NOTICE OF ANY CHANGES.
WEEKLY GOAL MILEAGE – is included so that athletes have a guide to their training. Most athletes must get runs in on their own, in addition to what is offered with the team, to achieve their training and season goals. Weekly goal mileage which is posted on the training log, should try to be maintained while athletes are on vacation if possible.
Athletes determine which level of a runner they are and follow the prescribed mileage for that level:
A NEW RUNNER– an athlete with very little/no running experience.
A RETURNER- an athlete who competed for REVHS during cross country last season or who has competed for or trained with an organized team.
A VARSITY RUNNER – an athlete who has earned their varsity letter in cross country or track at REVHS - Athletes who plan on attending REVHS Mammoth Running Camp should do Varsity Mileage
Returning Athletes will be provided a very specific weekly mileage goal chart.
TRAINING LOG – is included so that athletes can track their weekly mileage as well as track their training progression. Athletes are encouraged to fill out the training log every day they work out and include how they felt, if they walked during the run, if they had and specific aches or pains, and during speed or tempo training their times pace. Training should be logged on XCSTATS.
