Learning Points
Insecurities are Common
Through the creation of our survey, we discovered that insecurities are overwhelmingly common amongst youth, cutting across gender, background, and social circles. From appearance and academic pressure to social comparison and fear of failure, young people today are navigating a complex web of self-doubt. These insecurities aren’t just occasional thoughts—they're daily struggles that affect confidence, mental health, and overall well-being. What stood out most was how many teens feel like they’re alone in these feelings, even though our results show they're far from it. This survey didn’t just reveal statistics—it uncovered stories, emotions, and a shared human experience that deserves attention and empathy.
Affirmations are Crucial
With the support of our counselor, we didn’t just learn about affirmations—we actively practiced them and felt their positive impact firsthand. By incorporating daily affirmations into our routines, we noticed a shift in our mindset, increased self-worth, and a stronger sense of inner confidence. What started as simple words turned into powerful tools for self-growth.
Social Media is Dangerous
While conducting research alongside our counselor, Ms. Colman, we found that teens who reduced their social media usage by just 50% experienced a noticeable boost in their self-image. Even this small change led to increased self-confidence, less comparison with unrealistic standards, and a more positive outlook on their own lives. It highlighted just how powerful and immediate the impact of digital habits can be on mental well-being.
The term risk refers to the likelihood of feeling harmful, danger or negative consequences from a particular action, event, or condition. It involves the potential for something bad or undesirable to happen. In a health context, risk refers to factors that increase the chances of developing a condition or disorder. Many people are at risk for Body Dysmorphia, especially teenagers and young adults.
