Meet your Inferno Lounge staff!
Ms. Griggs-Hopkins (she/her/hers) is a California native who has taught all levels of math at Sweetwater High School for over 18 years! (I know, how is that possible? She looks so young!) Mrs. “G-Hop” received her degree in Mathematics from UC Santa Barbara, before obtaining her Master's in Mathematics Education and her teaching credential, from UC San Diego. While at SUHi, Mrs. Griggs has held many roles. When she’s not at SUHi (a rare occurrence) she enjoys playing with her daughters, Violet and Juniper, hanging out with her family and friends, hiking, working out, brunching, going to the theatre with her bestie Mr. Garcia, and binge-watching all the TV/movies she’s missed while working. “The best part about being the after school program coordinator is getting the opportunity to build relationships with students and teachers and supporting them to make their visions reality. I am honored and humbled every day to work at a place that I consider my home. The students and staff have truly made me who I am today, and continue to push me to be my best self!"
Ms. Debbie (she/her/hers) was born and raised in San Diego, California, and has lived in National City her entire life. All the schools she has attended have been located within this city, including Sweetwater High School! She is a proud Lao American and a first-generation college graduate, earning her Bachelor of Arts in Biological Psychology from California State University, San Bernardino. In her free time, she enjoys going for walks, meditating, trying new foods, spending time at the beach or park, and exploring new activities.She is passionate about mental health, especially when it comes to supporting younger generations. She’s had the opportunity to support children, teens, and young adults from all walks of life, including those navigating homelessness, adoption, mental health struggles, substance use, and other difficult childhood experiences. She believes that in order for young people to successfully transition into adulthood, it is essential that they have positive role models and a strong support system.Through the before- and after-school program, her goal has been to provide a safe, fun, and inclusive environment where students can learn, foster connections, and feel supported.

Keren Salazar (she/her/hers) is a proud San Diego native and is currently pursuing an Associate Degree in Child Development at Southwestern College. She has been working with children for about four years and is truly passionate about what she does. Keren loves creating fun, positive, and meaningful experiences where kids and youth can learn, grow, and feel supported.
In her free time, she enjoys spending time with friends, whether it's a day at the beach or a movie night at home. She also loves scrapbooking with an iced coffee, which is her favorite way to relax and be creative.
Keren's goal for the after-school program is to build strong connections with both the youth and staff. She wants everyone to feel welcomed, valued, and to have a great time. Seeing others succeed brings her so much joy and she is always happy to help in any way she can.
