Pair this book with the 2019 Hour of Code Week December 9th-15th. In this game, students will learn how to code their own shields.
Have students create a copy of this template. Students should brainstorm their fears and put them on the other side of the wall using shapes, images, or text. Once they have identified their fears have students discuss their fears as a class or in small groups. Ask them to consider: What good can they find in the things that scare them? What similarities do they share with the things that they fear? What might the world look like without the things they fear?
Students can follow this simple tutorial on the MakeCode Editor using Micro:bits to have a simple back and forth conversation. Ask students to image a wall between them and consider: What challenges arise when having a conversation this way? What misunderstandings might occur because of the wall?
