My Firearm Safety and Fundamentals class is suitable for beginners with no experience at all through anyone with some experience who would like to improve fundamentals and expand their knowledge. Pepper Spray Fundamentals is a foundational tool and skill for defending yourself from human and animal attackers. The Concealed Carry Permit Class provides all the knowledge needed and the certification to apply with your Sheriff's Department to receive your CCW license.
We use pistols and revolvers for training. Rifle, carbine and shotgun safety and operation are covered as well but we will begin training with handguns. If you have a specific weapon or platform you wish to learn please let me know, and I can absolutely teach using a firearm you already own! Handguns, hunting rifles, shotguns, AR/modern sporting rifle; I have loaners in most formats.
Your safety, and mine, are paramount in your instruction. Strict safety protocols and rules will be in place throughout.
My private outdoor range makes for a safe range environment free from distractions and conducive to learning and fun.
FSF is a beginner-level class for people with no previous firearm experience through people wishing to work on fundamentals. Students will leave the class knowing the rules of safe handling, the different types and actions of firearms, and the fundamentals of operation and marksmanship. This course includes a live-fire qualification to demonstrate proficiency.
This course is a solid foundations curriculum that covers everything you need to know to begin to enjoy the shooting sports safely and responsibly. It takes a "crawl, walk, run" approach to make sure students are comfortable, ready and excited for each step.
Class includes everything you need: a bound reference book with all the information presented in the class, loaner firearms (you are welcome to bring your own!), safety gear, ammunition for the live fire qualification, and a certificate of successful completion.
Pepper Spray (also called OC Spray) is a valuable defensive tool that provides an effective, non-injurious, and inexpensive way to incapacitate an attacker. It also fills a huge gap in the defensive use-of-force continuum: it can defend you beyond arm's reach without resorting to a firearm which will always be considered lethal force. Statistically you are vastly more likely to defend yourself or a loved one from an attack that is not a "deadly" threat, meaning that a firearm is not the right defensive tool and will likely result in you being charged or worse.
I strongly urge anyone serious about their safety to carry pepper spray: it is legal almost everywhere, is small and inconspicuous, and can be highly effective. However there is a lot to learn and to consider before carrying. In this class we will discuss the different types of devices and their strengths and limitations, why every dog owner should carry it, formulations and how to select the best tool for your needs, how to carry them safely, and how to use each kind effectively. We'll go over how to decontaminate if you get exposed, and you'll have the opportunity to practice with inert training units so you'll be truly prepared when your safety is on the line.
This class meets and exceeds the new (2025) Colorado standards to certify the student to apply for a Concealed Carry Permit (CCW) in Colorado. It requires previous firearm experience (such as my Fundamentals course which can count towards CCW course minimums), and the ability to shoot to "defensive accuracy" standards. To graduate, students must pass a 50-round qualifying course of live fire, demonstrate safe handling at all times, and pass a written exam.
This curriculum is not an intro to firearms; students will learn the laws regarding concealed carry and use of force, laws and considerations for personal defense, home defense, and lawful defensive firearm use in different settings, conflict avoidance, and the aftermath of being forced to engage in a defensive shooting.
Training outside these courses can be arranged! Group sessions, consultations on a specific firearm, cleaning/maintenance, hunting and sport shooting, ammunition selection, storage and staging, or other topics... just let me know what you're interested in!
Classes are taught at my home or a private classroom in Lyons as needed. After the classroom portion, we will transition to live fire at my private outdoor range.
Each student must complete a waiver to participate in class.
