Objectives for the Unit

Below are listed three main objectives for the unit with the corresponding standards they are connected to. Below each point the APA citation for the standard is listed.

1) Students will draw and label a picture and write two informational sentences with prompted support from the teacher about a familiar topic (like play and lunch) and score a Meets (5-7 points out of 9 points) on the post-assessment rubric.

  • CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.W.K.2 Use a combination of drawing, dictating, and writing to compose informative or explanatory texts in which they name what they are writing about and supply some information about the topic.

2) Students will publish a report booklet with drawings and descriptions about recycling to demonstrate their increasing knowledge about nonfiction writing features and the importance of recycling to receive at least a Meets (3-4 points out of 5 points) on a writing checklist.

3) Students will be able to use demonstrate positive social interactions with others and ask for assistance using simple strategies such as hand raising during the unit to receive at least a “Meets” (2 points out of 3 points) on a checklist.
