What about Covid?
All participants should be Covid negative or not currently contagious or showing symptoms. Masks are required. Adherence to social distancing is required. Access to hand sanitizer is provided.
Do I have to pay to apply or participate?
No. The program is free to apply for and participate in.
How long is the program for?
The program runs for three months, every other Saturday 10AM to 2PM from April 10th to June 12th.
What will I do during the program?
You will plant and grow vegetables like lettuce, kale, spinach and carrots at a community garden in the Bronx. At home you will grow herbs like basil, thyme, lentil sprouts or rosemary.
What would I have to bring to the program?
Yourself! Oh, and your lunch! All the seeds, tools and protective gear will be provided to you.
Where will this program take place?
At a community garden in the Bronx. The exact location is yet to be confirmed but it should be in the area of Mosholu Parkway.
How and when do I receive the $100 Visa Gift Card?
Upon completing all of the program requirements, you will be eligible to receive the $100 Visa Gift Card, along with a certificate of completion as well as all of the vegetables that you've grown till that point.
What happens if I join the program but can't complete it?
If you don't complete the program, you will no longer be eligible to receive the $100 Visa Gift Card or the certificate of complettion. You will be allowed to take all of the vegetables that you've grown up until this point.
Is there a dress code?
Not necessarily. But you should wear comfortable clothing that you don't mind getting dirty. Sneakers and long sleeves are advised to protect from the sun and shrubbery.
Is there a bathroom on-site?
No, but the program facilitators should be able to direct you to the nearest available bathroom.
Does this program have homework?
Not really, but part of the program involves growing a plant at home! The home plant's growth will be completely your responsibility but a reasonable effort to grow it must be shown by the end of the program for you to be considered done.
