Poor Houses in Washington State? Yep!My first reaction to learning that our state once had "Poor Houses", or "Poor Farms" as they were also known, was one of shock and dismay. It conjured up images in my mind of debtor prisons and incarcerating people who couldn't pay their bills. "Residents" at many of these facilties were called inmates. Wow!
