This Privacy Policy explains how CPGDev ("we", "us", or "our") collects, uses, and protects your information when you use the RecipeLens mobile application. We are committed to protecting your privacy and handling your data transparently and responsibly.
1. Who We Are

We are subject to the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) as applicable in Ireland and the European Union, the UK GDPR, and where applicable, the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA).
2. Information We Collect
We collect the minimum amount of data necessary to provide the RecipeLens service.
Account information
When you use RecipeLens without signing in, a temporary anonymous session is created via Firebase Authentication. This session holds only a randomly assigned identifier and is not linked to any personal information.
If you choose to sign in with Google, we collect:
- Your email address, used for authentication
- A unique user identifier assigned at registration
Recipe data
- Recipes, ingredients, methods and notes you save within the app
- Cookbook names and organisation you create
- Photos of finished dishes you choose to attach to recipes
- Nutritional estimates generated for your recipes, stored against your account in the cloud (signed-in users only)
Images for scanning
Photos you take or select from your gallery for recipe extraction are transmitted to our secure Cloud Function and then to Anthropic's API for processing. Images are used solely to extract recipe text and are not stored by us or Anthropic beyond the duration of the request.
Nutritional estimates
When you request a nutritional estimate for a recipe, the ingredient list is transmitted to Anthropic's API via our secure Cloud Function for processing. No images are transmitted for this feature. The resulting estimate is stored in your account on Firebase Firestore (signed-in users only). Anonymous users may request estimates but results will not be saved between sessions.
Shopping list
Your shopping list is stored locally on your device using Android DataStore. It is not transmitted to or stored on any external server.
Usage data
- Anonymous usage events such as recipe scans, cook mode usage, and purchase activity, collected via Firebase Analytics
- Crash reports and diagnostic information collected via Firebase Crashlytics
Purchase information
Scan credit purchases are processed by Google Play Billing. We do not store payment card details. We store the number of scan credits associated with your account.
3. Voice Recognition
RecipeLens includes an optional hands-free Cook Mode that uses your device's microphone for voice commands. This feature uses Android's built-in Speech Recognition service.
Voice audio processed during Cook Mode is transmitted to Google's speech recognition servers for processing. RecipeLens does not record, store, or retain any voice audio. Use of this feature is entirely optional.

4. How We Use Your Information
- To provide and maintain the RecipeLens service
- To extract and digitise recipe content from your photos
- To generate nutritional estimates from your recipe ingredients
- To sync your recipes, cookbooks and nutritional data across devices (signed-in users)
- To process and fulfil scan credit purchases
- To improve app performance and fix bugs via crash reporting
- To understand how the app is used in aggregate via anonymous analytics
We do not use your data for advertising purposes. RecipeLens contains no advertisements.
5. Data Storage & Security
Your recipe data and nutritional estimates are stored securely in Google Firebase Firestore, hosted on Google Cloud infrastructure. Data is encrypted in transit and at rest.
Your shopping list is stored locally on your device only and is not accessible to us.
Exported recipe PDFs are saved locally to your device at the location you choose. We have no access to locally stored files.
We implement appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect your personal data against unauthorised access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction.
6. Third-Party Services
RecipeLens uses the following third-party services, each with their own privacy policies:
- Google Firebase — authentication (including anonymous sessions), database, analytics, and crash reporting
- Anthropic — AI processing of recipe images and ingredient lists for nutritional estimates via our secure server-side proxy. Data is not stored by Anthropic beyond the processing request
- Google Play Billing — in-app purchase processing
- Google Speech Recognition — optional voice command processing in Cook Mode
We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with any other third parties.
7. Data Retention
We retain your account and recipe data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, your data will be permanently removed from our systems within 30 days.
Anonymous session data is not linked to any personal information and is not retained beyond the session.
Anonymous analytics data is retained in accordance with Google Firebase's default retention periods.
8. Your Rights
Under GDPR and UK GDPR, you have the following rights regarding your personal data:
- Right of access — request a copy of the data we hold about you
- Right to rectification — request correction of inaccurate data
- Right to erasure — request deletion of your data
- Right to portability — request your data in a portable format
- Right to object — object to processing of your data
- Right to restrict processing — request we limit how we use your data

California residents (CCPA)
California residents have the right to know what personal information is collected, to request deletion, and to opt out of the sale of personal information. We do not sell personal information. To exercise your rights, contact us at the email above.
9. Children's Privacy
RecipeLens is suitable for users of all ages. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 beyond what is described in this policy. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information without parental consent, please contact us and we will promptly delete it.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any significant changes by updating the date at the top of this page. Continued use of RecipeLens after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
