When proposing this project I noted that I wanted to hone in on my scene painting skills and work on my communicate. I especially said that I wanted to work on asking questions, asking for help, and working with other students. I think that this project all in all allowed me to grow and work on meeting these goals.
Going into this project I was eager to learn how a set is built and painted from start to finish. I was also excited to build upon my scene painting foundation. The start of the project was sampling with Bridgette, and this allowed me to get a feel for the pacing for this project. I learned that a scenic painter must go with the ebb and flow of the project and that sometimes you will have many projects at once to paint, and others you are just watching paint dry and waiting for another project.
This project challenged my communication skills that I think will benefit me in the world after college. I learned how to trust my gut and not second guess what I know to be true, how to speak up for myself, how to ask questions, how to ask for help, and how to create an environment that is positive for other students that I am working with. Though I still have so much more to learn, I strongly believe that this project and experience has allowed me to go into the professional world and continue building my communication skills.
A situation I was proud of is being able to create a positive environment for other students even if I was upset or frustrated. I worked very hard to speak to my fellow peers in a calm tone. I always said thank you, and your doing great, and always made myself available for questions even if I didn't know the answer. And if I didn't know the answer I would ask questions and report back to them. I pride myself is being able to create an environment that is welcoming for all, as that is something I wanted when I first came into the shop.
Overall, I am proud of myself for this project and the work that I did. I was able to build my skills in color mixing, people skills, and time management. I am happy I got this experience and I am excited for what is to come!
