I was working on my project. And when I had to add reinforcement to my elements it used to show up smoothly. I used to click Rebar > then Choose Rebar shape I want to use > then simply add it to any element in my section view. But after I needed to work with different project templates "US Metric" after I am done drawing my elements like before I wanted to add Rebar. But this time it showed me a message says "No Rebar Shape family is loaded in the project Would you like to load one now?" When I clicked Yes and picked from Libraries I have in my "US Imperial" > picked Structural Rebar Shapes but I only found 2 Rebar shapes files in there 01.rfa and 04.rfa . So, I loaded both of them and they are all I can use.

When I faced this problem I said maybr this is all because I am using different project template and now I should use the first one I used which was "Construction Template". But when I did use the old template it had no Rebar Shapes either and it asked me to load. Thank god one of the projects was finished I opened it and checked if the problem applies to old revit project. But no it has its Rebar Shapes family and then I decided using my old project as a template since it doesnt have that problem.

Here at Symetri we have created a full library of rebar shape families along with formulae that comply with the new updated standard. Additionally, we have added extra parameters to enable the scheduling of weights and control over shape codes.

The code is too long to show here, but what we do is to call EditFamily on the shape. Then we create the rebar shape from the model lines in the family. The dimension lines and text are created from the dimension elements. If there are other ways to create this image we will be very happy. Please note that we need both the hooks and the dimensions in our figure:

This is done for each bar in the set individually and allows extraction of fabrication data like individual bar segment lengths and hooks. The geometry of free form rebar is defined by the selected references, and if possible, matched to a rebar shape family.

Rebar numbering and assembly matching, as well as all other properties of the structural rebar category, make use of the shape information (shape codes and segment lengths) when dealing with a free form bar matched to a rebar shape family.

This feature has been implemented to help you better communicate design intent, fabrication data in the form of bar bending schedules showing individual segment lengths and shape codes when using planar free form rebar.

Hi everyone, I have been testing different options for importing a complex facade from Rhino to Revit (all volumes consisting of closed polysurfaces). This facade needs to be in the Wall category in Revit and have the possibility to modify type properties. Hence I have made a Wall family for each individual facade and found out that the direct shape is the only option that translates all the geometry from Rhino to Revit without anything missing.

But I would prefer to be able to update the geometry inside the family and add parameters to the Family Type inside the Revit project, without opening the family each time. When I use the New Component Family and Component Family Form nodes the geometry is updated with many gaps. Is there a way to update the family with direct shapes (with material) instead of using the New Component Family node?

Rebar bar is a system family defining what dimension and steel quality is set for the structural rebar. Here you can also modify bend diameter and hook lengths. It is important that the name of the type is set so you can easily understand the definition of the rebar.

With rebar shape you define the shape of the different types of reinforcement. This is handled in the family editor. In Naviate most of the local standards are presented in specification sheet 2A. All shapes are defined as style: standard.

An interesting question was posed to us this week. Is it possible to have a rebar length parameter that is applied to all rebar shapes from which a custom length can be calculated as per the country standard (in this case, SANS from South Africa). While it was possible, shape code 86 presented a particular challenge, as we will demonstrate over the next few blogs.

In this first blog, we create a shared parameter and we apply it to some the rebar shape families. Then we insert the families back into the project so that we can schedule their shared parameter . It is clear that we can apply a formula to the shared parameter in the families that are different from one family to the next. This is something that can be useful in many situations.

With regards our Revit setup, we are working though our first full 3D job involving reinforcement detailed in 3D. Our Revit rebar modelling therefore is mostly as it comes out of the box with exception to the bar calloffs which we have generated a custom family for. We are however sending our staff on the advanced Revit training course next month which covers custom families and if we see benefit on generating custom reinforcement families or Dynamo scripts to cover some of the repetitive tasks then we will develop these in house.

The Shape Detail tool creates a dimensioned sketch (Revit detail family) of a rebar- or fabric shape and places it together with a tag in the view.Depending on the family type the rebar shape detail represents either the selected partial set or all instances of the total mark.
