If you want a proven, tension-controlled cover for your 2009-2018 Ram 1500 that resists sagging and curling over years of heavy use, choose RealTruck TruXedo TruXport Soft; if you need a modern, clamp-on system with integrated cargo keepers for your 2019-2026 Ram 1500, choose Gator Soft Roll-Up Truck.
• RealTruck TruXedo TruXport Soft: Strengths include the SureTension Control System that prevents edge curl and structural supports that stop sagging; trade-off is it is designed specifically for older model years (2009-2018) and lacks built-in cargo management features. This pick is for owners of pre-2019 trucks who prioritize long-term durability and a tight seal against the elements.
• Gator Soft Roll-Up Truck: Strengths include a fast, no-drill installation, a sleek low-profile fit, and the inclusion of adjustable GEARHOLD cargo keepers to stop gear from sliding; trade-off is it targets the newer 2019-2026 body style and excludes models with the Multi-Function split tailgate or RAMBox. This pick is for newer truck owners who value quick setup and keeping their bed organized while on the go.
The RealTruck TruXedo TruXport Soft is engineered for the driver who wants a tonneau cover that simply stays put, year after year. The core of its design philosophy revolves around the exclusive factory-calibrated SureTension Control System. This mechanism is not just a minor tweak; it is a dedicated feature intended to maintain a tight fit throughout the life of the cover. In my view, this is the most critical feature for anyone tired of watching soft covers lose their shape. Over time, many soft roll-ups suffer from edge curl, where the sides lift up, ruining the aerodynamic look and letting in rain. The TruXedo design actively fights this by keeping the vinyl taut, ensuring the cover looks clean and professional even after seasons of sun and wind.
Durability is another pillar of this product. The manufacturer specifies a 40-Grade DualShield vinyl, which is rated to resist tears, UV exposure, and harsh weather conditions. This material choice suggests a focus on longevity rather than just initial appearance. When you are looking at a product that needs to survive North American winters, summer heatwaves, and everything in between, that level of material specification matters. Furthermore, the cover includes built-in structural supports. These are crucial for preventing the dreaded "sag" in the middle of the bed. Sagging isn't just an eyesore; it creates pockets where standing water can collect, adding unnecessary weight and potential damage. By addressing these physical weaknesses head-on, the TruXedo offers a peace of mind that comes from engineering rather than luck.
Who should buy this? If you own a 2009 through 2018 Dodge Ram 1500 without the RamBox, this is likely your best bet for a reliable soft cover. It is also ideal for users who frequently haul bikes or other tall items but still want a secure, weather-tight seal when they aren't using the bed. The RTxGrip patented multi-tiered hook-and-loop closure works in tandem with an automatic slam latch system. This combination ensures the cover stays sealed no matter the driving conditions, whether you are on a highway at high speeds or navigating a bumpy backroad. However, if you have a newer truck or need specific cargo organization built into the cover itself, this unit might feel a bit basic compared to what is available for the latest models.

The Gator Soft Roll-Up Truck is built for the modern truck owner who values speed, simplicity, and organization. The defining characteristic here is the clamp-on installation system. The data indicates that this cover installs in less than 30 minutes with no drilling required. For someone who wants to get their truck ready for an adventure immediately without needing tools or waiting for a shop appointment, this is a massive advantage. The single cable pull mechanism adds to the ease of use, allowing you to open the bed completely with one hand while keeping the rest of the system flush and low-profile. This low-profile fit is essential for those who want the aesthetic of a hard cover without the bulk or the price tag.
What sets the Gator apart from standard soft covers is the inclusion of GEARHOLD adjustable cargo keepers. Many soft roll-up covers leave your bed as an empty void where groceries, tools, or camping gear can slide around during transit. This feature directly addresses that pain point. By securing your load inside the bed area under the cover, you gain confidence that your items won't shift or rattle while you drive. This makes the Gator particularly attractive for active lifestyles where you might be hauling equipment for sports or work. The all-weather performance is also highlighted, promising protection against rain, snow, dirt, and dust. The design aims to create a water-sealed surface that keeps the contents of your bed dry and clean, regardless of the season.
This product is strictly for owners of the new body style Dodge Ram 1500s from 2019 to 2026. It is critical to note that it will not fit models equipped with the Multi-Function split tailgate or the RAMBox storage system. If your truck has these features, you must look elsewhere. But for the standard 6' 4" bed on the newer Rams, this cover delivers a streamlined solution. It is perfect for the buyer who wants a "grab and go" experience. You install it quickly, you secure your gear with the keepers, and you are ready to hit the road. It is a tool designed for efficiency and practicality.

In my opinion, I would buy the RealTruck TruXedo TruXport Soft if I were fitting an older 2009-2018 Ram, primarily because the SureTension Control System and structural supports offer a level of durability and visual consistency that generic soft covers often lack. However, since my current vehicle is a newer model where I need to transport bike racks and other large gear, I would choose the Gator Soft Roll-Up Truck. Its no-drill installation and integrated cargo keepers make it the superior choice for getting out and enjoying life's adventures quickly. For bike racks specifically, the Gator's ability to secure the bed floor while providing full access is the deciding factor for me. Both products excel in their respective eras, but the Gator's modern features align better with how I actually use my truck today.
The Gator Soft Roll-Up Truck is easier to install. It features a clamp-on system that requires no drilling and can be set up in less than 30 minutes, whereas the TruXedo requires a more involved process to calibrate the tension system properly.
Yes, the Gator Soft Roll-Up Truck includes GEARHOLD adjustable cargo keepers to prevent tools and gear from sliding. The RealTruck TruXedo TruXport Soft does not list built-in cargo keepers, so additional tie-downs would be needed to secure loose items.
Both are designed for all-weather performance. The TruXedo uses a 40-Grade DualShield vinyl with structural supports to resist sag and water pooling, while the Gator focuses on a water-sealed surface with extreme weather protection claims.
No, the Gator Soft Roll-Up Truck explicitly states it will not fit models with the Multi-Function split tailgate or RAMBox. Always verify your specific tailgate configuration before purchasing.
