RAG Assistant is designed with privacy as a core principle. We do not collect, store, or transmit your personal data to our servers. All processing occurs locally on your device.

All data generated and used by RAG Assistant is stored locally in your browser using Chrome's storage API:

Knowledge base content (documents, URLs, text)
Extension settings and preferences
Quick action templates
This data remains on your device and is never transmitted to our servers.
When you add content to your assistant's knowledge base:
Documents: Processed locally using browser-based libraries (PDF.js, Mammoth.js, SheetJS)
Website URLs: Content fetched and processed in your browser
YouTube Transcripts: Retrieved via Tactiq API (third-party service)
Text Input: Stored locally in browser storage
All knowledge base processing and vector embeddings are created locally on your device.
RAG Assistant connects to AI service providers using YOUR API keys:
Your queries are sent directly to your chosen AI provider (OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, DeepSeek, or xAI)
Communication occurs directly between your browser and the AI provider
We do NOT have access to your API keys or conversations
We do NOT act as an intermediary or proxy
When you use AI features, you are subject to the privacy policies of your chosen provider:

When you enable web search features:
Serper API: Your search queries are sent to Serper.dev using your API key
Search results are returned directly to your browser
We do not have access to your search queries or results

When you upload documents:
Files are processed entirely in your browser using client-side JavaScript libraries
No file content is sent to our servers
Extracted text is stored locally for knowledge base purposes
When you use image analysis features:
Images are sent to OpenAI's Vision API using your API key
We do not store or have access to your images
Image processing occurs between your browser and OpenAI
When you use voice features:
Audio is processed via OpenAI's Whisper API using your API key
We do not store or have access to your audio recordings
Transcription occurs between your browser and OpenAI
RAG Assistant injects content scripts on web pages for:
Text selection popup functionality
Image hover interactions
Page content extraction for knowledge base
These scripts only activate when you explicitly use extension features and do not track your browsing.
All data is encrypted using Chrome's built-in storage encryption
API keys are stored securely in Chrome's storage with additional protection
Only you have access to your locally stored data
The extension does not connect to our servers
All data remains within your browser and chosen AI providers
We cannot access, view, or retrieve your data
You can manage your data at any time:
Export Data: Download all your assistants and settings as JSON files
Import Data: Restore previously exported data
Delete Data: Clear all extension data through settings
Remove Extension: Uninstalling removes all local data
All your data is accessible through the extension interface:
View and edit assistants
Review chat history
Manage knowledge base content
Export settings and configurations
RAG Assistant is not intended for users under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children. If you believe a child has used our extension, please contact us so we can address the situation.
We may update this Privacy Policy to reflect:
Changes in extension features
Updates to legal requirements
Improvements to privacy practices
When we make significant changes:
We will update the "Last Updated" date
We will notify users through extension updates

Since all data is stored locally on your device:

Local Data: Retained until you delete it or uninstall the extension
Our Servers: We retain no data as we don't collect any
AI Providers: Subject to their respective retention policies
RAG Assistant does not use cookies. The extension uses Chrome's local storage API for all data persistence.
