The original samples (Creative Commons Attribution 3.0 license) were recorded by Alexander Holm [axeldenstore (at) gmail (dot) com] with two AKG c414 condenser microphones placed in an AB position at around 12 centimeters above the strings. He captured both the piano sound and keys release noises as separate multi-samples. All the samples were captured in 48kHz 24bit audio quality.

I bought a cheap MIDI keyboard controller and I mounted it under my desk. The idea is that I'd like to just play piano and sing when I feel like it, but I don't want to have to go downstairs to fire up the Digital Grand, connect everything, troubleshoot the inevitable glitch with the soundcards, etc..

Hi everyone. I just purchased a grand piano. I have difficulty in deciding where to put it. I did some research online. It says that don't put piano next to an outside wall/windows/ drafty places. Following this standard, I feel I can't find any place to put my piano in my apartment.

By default Garritan CFX and CFX Lite have slightly "unforgiving" re-pedaling behavior, i.e. it has a relatively short timing window for re-pedaling compared to what is usual. To reiterate what re-pedaling is: on an acoustic piano while holding one or more notes with the sustain pedal, you can release the sustain pedal to dampen the strings but if you press it again shortly afterwards they will not have decayed enough to be silent, so they will continue vibrating. Logically, that is also applicable in case you press a key and lift your finger but immediately press the pedal. If you are fast enough, the note will keep sounding as though the key wasn't released at all. This behavior is supported on all digital pianos, however many software pianos don't support it at all. Well, Garritan CFX introduced it in one of their updates, however by default the re-pedaling window is rather short and so it's still insufficient to be realistic. Some people would colloquially refer to this as "unforgiving pedaling".

Basically in the default CFX there's a very short time window after you release a note and can then catch it by repedaling. As a result when playing as I usually play, I have bass notes cut out, ones that my repedaling couldn't catch. Can't say I've played hundreds of different grand pianos in my life. Most probably about 10-20. But never had this problem on a real piano. So I tweaked (prolonged the repedaling window) entirely to my liking, not emulating a particular real or digital piano. But it changed CFX for good for me and apparently to other people too. You can try it and revert if you don't like it. Or if you are happy with CFX as it is you don't need to bother at all.

HZPiano My piano PC is a fourth-generation i7 @3.6 gHz, 4x2 threads, 32 Gb RAM W7 Pro 64bits machine. Cantabile Lite is my VSTi host. Could I safely buy and successfully use the current Garritan CFX (full) on it?

Indeed, exactly that (spaciousness/room component) has thus far held me back from diving in; and Modern U seems rather unique in providing that true "at the piano in my own room" feel. Without experiencing Modern U, I probably wouldn't have gained any confidence in VSTi use at all, or even in digital pianoing in general.

By trying different soundfonts you can compare how a piece sounds differently when played on the different pianos. (This is why great pianists select their instrument when concerting, from a large collection available in the big concert halls usually, these get even trimmed and specially prepared by piano tuner or piano technician to meet precisely the artists needs before each concert.)

The sound quality is lagging, though it's an excellent app. It's possible that this is a personal issue, but the sound quality is very slow. It has a long note feature that I don't like, but it is a great app. This app is great for someone like me who does not have a piano at her home but still enjoys playing a little bit. Although I won't be using it any more, it was as close to a digital piano that I could find.

It sounds great when you play the piano. But, when you turn it on to flute, it's a loud, booming sound that plays for three seconds! It takes too much time to display that you have pressed the key. A lot of ads are popping up in a matter of minutes. This app is not recommended to anyone. If you don't want to vent and correct a negative reveiw then you can be my guest.

It was very helpful in pitching songs to choir. This is a great idea. It is amazing! I was able to find melodies using the app. This has been invaluable as I'm trying to master the mezzo-soprano lines after many years of being a soprano. It is very useful to move the key up and down on the board. Although I am still trying to figure out how recording works, I know that I can with some effort. This is like having a portable piano!

It seems to be a wonderful app. It has an excellent rating from BecUse and it plays great. After a while, the screen goes black without warning. The notes play even though i touched it. The problem continues to occur even if i close the app. I don't have a piano right now so please fix this issue. We are grateful!
