Description: In a forest full of animals, Hare knows that she is the fastest of them all! Tortoise is tired of her boasting and challenges her to a race, but Hare sees no point in racing when she will obviously win. As children watch these two animals race towards the finish line, they will learn that determination works best when reaching towards a goal.
Evaluation: This story provides a modern twist in an excellent re-telling of Aesop's "The Tortoise and the Hare". Children are able to make connections to the animals in the story by thinking of the speed of a real tortoise and hare that they may have seen in real life. Children can use these important connections to learn life lessons through the experiences of the animals in the story. Some students may even be able to relate to the experiences in this fable through their own lives.
Usage: This resource would be great to use for students in kindergarten through third grade (ages 5-9) by allowing students to learn important lessons that they can apply to their lives. Kindergarten and first grade students could enjoy focusing on the simplicity of the characters and what they learn with a story map. Older Students could dive into the background of Aesop, the moral of the story, and the vocabulary.
