To make sure that every child can achieve their full potential as a student and as an individual through having access to reading and writing skills independent of their unique neurological circumstances.
The reading challenge stems from a variety of reasons. I will mitigate the following in our sessions:
Dyslexia
ADHD
Working Memory
Processing Speed
Visual Processing Challenges
Fluid Reasoning Challenges
and more
To improve reading skills we work on Phonemic Awareness, Phonics, Decoding, Spelling, Syntax, Vocabulary, Reading Strategies, Procody, Fluency, and Basic Writing.
The writing difficulty can be caused by several factors. In my teaching, I mitigate the challenges with the following:
Working Memory
Processing Speed
Executive Functions
Initiation and chunking
ADHD
Dysgraphia
To improve writing skills we work from simple to complex: making lists, making simple, compound, and complex sentences, organizing sentences into short paragraphs, and expanding those into 3-5 paragraph essays.
Test prep is not a skill readily taught at a public school. Many students need explicit instruction to know how best to approach test questions. Each section relies on a student's ability to find an effective strategy to approach a question. I offer help with the Reading and Writing & Language sections.
