HMS NOTE

India celebrates June 19 as the National Reading Day in honour of P N Panicker, the father of the Library and Literacy Movement in Kerala. ... The P N Panicker Foundation and P N Panicker Vigyan Vikas Kendra have been observing the national reading day, reading week and reading month since June 19, 1996.

The activities that he initiated triggered a popular cultural movement in Kerala which led to universal literacy in the state in the 1990s. Because of this, June 19, his death anniversary, has been observed in Kerala as Vayanadinam (Reading Day) since 1996

MANAGER'S NOTE

Learning to read is about listening and understanding as well as working out what is printed on the page. Through hearing stories, children are exposed to a wide range of words. This helps them build their own vocabulary and improve their understanding when they listen, which is vital as they start to read. Reading is the foundation of knowledge.

TEACHERS MESSAGE

  • A book is a gift you can open again and again. — ...

  • Literacy is a bridge from misery to hope. — ...

  • Once you learn to read, you will be forever free. — ...

  • Any book that helps a child to form a habit of reading, to make reading one of his needs, is good for him. —

These words creates a powerful and motivational spirit to each and everyone

Reading books aloud to children stimulates their imagination and expands their understanding of the world. It helps them develop language and listening skills and prepares them to understand the written word. ... Even after children learn to read by themselves, it's still important for you to read aloud together.

THANK YOU.....
