Authorities detained a man on Tuesday who is thought to have sexually assaulted a teen girl who went missing earlier in the month. A allegation of aggravated statutory rape (age difference higher than 10) and indecent assault and battery against a person 14 years of age or older was brought against Mark Goumas, 58, of New Hampshire.

A 15-year-old girl who had been reported missing was discovered Monday at 9:20 a.m., according to Auburn police. According to the investigators, the girl said that a male she did not know had sexually assaulted her that morning.

Officers selected Goumas as a suspect based on the few information they had and located him inside the city boundaries on Tuesday. According to the police, Goumas acknowledged having picked up the victim on Southbridge Street and performing the crimes. He was detained right away, and his bail was set at $10,040.

According to the authorities, Goumas was arraigned in Worcester District Court on Wednesday morning, where his bail was decreased to $1,000. It is now unknown as to why the bond was decreased or who presided over the arraignment. There was no more information provided.
