I searched the internet for this image for an excuse to include that pun.
These weights are one of the most common forms of surviving evidence of Ancient Greek weaving. "Of the major gods and goddesses, Athena was the goddess of women's handicrafts, with weaving and spinning being the most important to her cult."
We clocked the mention of alum and dyes real quick! This also got AJ thinking after the recording about how she has taken dye classes at her local LYS, but hasn't really dug into natural dyes a lot. Here is the book that she is considering picking up to try some techniques out. Let us know if you have other recommendations!

In the episode, Julia made a note to follow up here, in our show notes, if Daedalus had any divinity in his blood. Some sources say yes, others no. So it seems to still be up for debate, but what is not up for debate is that his skill level was such as to attract the favor of the gods regardless of divine status. But interestingly, someone who keeps popping up is associated with him too: Athena. Source
