The workload will vary across courses and sessions. Some sessions may require just the reading of one or two short stories or the viewing of a film. Other sessions might ask for the reading of a complete novel. In general, the professors will aim to keep the workload to a reasonable number of pages.

This seems like kind of a basic issue, right? If a teacher is going to read out loud to students, should the students have a copy of that text and read along with the teacher, or should the students listen first and then try to read the passage?
The cognitive psychologists we consulted surprised us: they immediately replied and they all agreed that cognitive load theory predicts that Scenario B is most likely to work the best. A couple quotes from their responses:
Reading aloud is one of the most important things caregivers and teachers can do with children. Research has repeatedly proved that one simple parenting technique is among the most effective. Children who are read aloud to by caregivers get a head start in language development and literacy skills and go to school better prepared. Reading aloud builds many important foundational skills, introduces vocabulary, provides a model of fluent, expressive reading, and helps children recognize what reading for pleasure is all about.
Although there is no substitute for reading in person to a child, there are still many benefits from using technology to show videos of people reading stories. In addition to many of the perks mentioned above, videos of books can offer a few novel benefits as well (pun intended).

Beyond these example, there are SO many more channels and playlists on YouTube with books being read aloud. Below is a list of those I came across, although a simple search for any book title will likely find others for you.
Last Friday, U.S. military children and their parents at the U.S. Army Garrison in Vicenza, Italy, attended a very special Blue Star Families Books on Bases event. The afternoon featured reading time with First Lady Michelle Obama and daughters Sasha and Malia, as well as some Disney magic.
Disney VoluntEARS were on hand to help make the afternoon memorable for the families, and Mickey Mouse also made a special appearance and joined the read-along. All attendees departed with Blue Star Families tote bags full of books from Disney Publishing Worldwide and Disney plush toys.

National Simultaneous Storytime is held annually, thanks to the Australian Library and Information Association (ALIA). Each year, one book is selected to be read simultaneously in libraries, schools, pre-schools, childcare centers, family homes, bookshops and many other places around Australia and New Zealand.
What if you could get your phone or tablet to read Kindle or other text aloud to you? I have recently come across an easy way to do this. This is an economics blog, so I will note that this approach saves considerable money versus paying for audio books like Audible, or paying for the Narration option on Kindle. Most of us already have text books we have bought from e.g. Kindle. Also, if you search on the subject, there are various sources for free on-line books, including hundreds of thousands titles available through Libby/Overdrive via your public library. This text-to-voice method should work with all of these e-books.
Once you do the two-finger swipe down to commence reading, it should keep reading onto following pages as well. For unknown reasons that does not work sometimes. I find that using the jump forward then jump back buttons on the little speech control panel unsticks this functionality.
(In this blog post I originally referenced 2017 video Kindle Android Text to Speech . This got rave comments back when it was first put on YouTube, but more recent comments there suggest that Android may have changed so that this approach no longer works well).
Jess, I assume your comment refers to Android. (I just checked with my iPad and iPhone, and instructions work for them). Thanks to your comment I revisited the original (2017) YouTube I linked for Android. Judging by comments there, it seems like Android has changed since 2017. So I found more recent YouTubes for Android and posted them here. A friend tried the 2022 method on Android and it worked now. Thanks for the feedback, and I hope it works for you now.

Or if you are using the "Read Out Loud" feature and it says the page is blank, I assume that the pdf file that you are working on is a scanned document or contain the image only which doesn't contain the real characters?
I am using Adobe acrobat reader DC 18.009.20050 on windows 10 and i lunch it as a desktop application, but i am still getting these same message "Warning, Empty Page" Kindly assist accordingly please.

Same issue here, not OCR but an actual PDF document and it says 'Warning Empty Page" typical of an Adobe product, lots of well designed things and then a bunch of poorly designed features that everyone else who has the budget software has done well, what is up with that Adobe?
I'm developing dynamic PDFs and I was able to make my PDF being readable after print / flattening my PDF using Adobe PDF Converter. But, I'm trying to make it readable while filling the PDF. Using Adobe LiveCycle Designer, I modify the information within the Accessibility palette to have Screen Reader Precedence to the appropriate value. Also I have the Form Properties > Save Options > Generate Accessibility Information (Tags) for Acrobat checked "On". But the only objects that are being read by the Reader is signature fields... all other pages have this "Warning - Empty Page".
I am having the same issue. The accessibility reader (NVDA) reads fine when the file is saved as a "static" pdf. However, once it is saved as a "dynamic" file, the error, "warning empty page" occurs for all pages except for those with signauture fields. Can anyone help with this issue? 152ee80cbc
