The Pattern

It always follows the same path. A system is built for coordination, recognition, or community support. It introduces a token or tradable asset. Speculators arrive. The token's exchange value begins to dominate its use value. The original purpose is crowded out. The community that the system was built for is left behind — or worse, exploited by those who arrived with different intentions.

This has happened to loyalty points. Reputation systems. Social currencies. Community tokens. Cultural practices themselves, when they can be monetized.

Reach is designed structurally to prevent this.

How Reach Refuses Financialization

Soulbound Tokens Cannot Be Traded

SBTs are non-transferable by design. They can only be earned through participation — never bought, sold, or transferred. This means they cannot be speculated on. Their only value is what they represent: that someone showed up.

Commerce Serves Culture, Not Markets

When craftspeople sell through Reach, the Commerce SBT documents the relationship — who made it, what tradition it comes from, who it now belongs to, and what community it supports. This is not a financial instrument. It is a record of authentic cultural exchange.

Fiat transactions settle outside the protocol. Reach does not intermediate funds or take a cut. It documents relationships and mints records. The economic benefit flows directly between the people involved.

Identity Through Action, Not Accumulation

In Reach, you cannot buy reputation. You cannot purchase status. You cannot acquire standing through anything other than sustained, genuine participation. This prevents the accumulation dynamics that corrupt most reputation systems.

Continuity over intensity — Reach's third axiom — means that showing up weekly for a year matters more than showing up dramatically once. Consistency must be lived. Intensity can be performed.

This is infrastructure for liberation — from meaninglessness, from erasure, from extraction. Not optimized for growth. Constrained for integrity.
