In light of the ongoing federal government shutdown and the temporary freezing of SNAP benefits, we recognize that some in our community may be facing unexpected financial strain. Please know that you are not alone—our church community is here to help.
If you are in need of assistance or support during this time, please reach out in confidence to our Senior Minister, Rev. J Sylvan, at minister@slcuu.org, or to our Director of Religious Education, Amanda Esko, at dre@slcuu.org.
After the 11 am service on Sunday, November 30th, join us for our annual Tree Trimming Party! We’ll decorate the sanctuary, hang ornaments on the tree (and make a few new ones!), and enjoy holiday music. It’s a cozy, joy-filled way to kick off the holiday season at First Church, and all ages are welcome!
Celebrate Solstice at First Church! Our annual evening gathering on December 20th is one of our most beloved community traditions—featuring in past years a candlelit labyrinth, interactive art, drumming, and storytelling. As we prepare for this year’s event, we’d love your imagination and your helping hands.
Do you have an idea for an activity or ritual? Want to help set up the labyrinth, create art installations, or support the flow of the evening? Whether you’re a visionary, a maker, or simply someone who loves the magic of Solstice, we’d be delighted to have you involved.
Reach out to dre@slcuu.org to share ideas or volunteer.
Let’s make the longest night of the year a night of light, connection, and wonder.
Join us for our new monthly Community Dinner Nights! We’ll share a potluck meal, then break into multi-age activities: activities and games for kids, skill workshops for teens, and multiple programming groups for adults. Come for the food, stay for the connection!
We are looking to diversify our voices on Ritual Sundays, and would love children and youth volunteers to help as worship associates. We need musicians, singers, readers, greeters; any ways that you see an adult participate, a child or youth could as well. Look below for ways to start to participate!
Music: Does your child or youth play and instrument and would like to play a prelude? Or would they lilke to lead, "Come, Come"? Email David Owens to signup!
Chalice Lighting: Click Here to signup to light our chalice. Children or youth can bring their own chalice lighting words, or we can provide options!
Have something else your child or youth would like to helo with? Email Amanda Esko and let her know.
Do you like to jump in where you’re needed most? Our Sunday Superheroes are flexible helpers who fill in any gaps on Sunday mornings—whether that’s caring for little ones in the nursery, assisting in a classroom, or lending a hand wherever support is needed. Superheroes meet in the Little Chapel at 10:45 am to check in and find out where their superpowers will be most helpful that day. No cape required—just a willing spirit and a smile!
Open Sanctuary Hour, Every Tuesday, 5:30-6:30pm
The world feels heavy these days, and sometimes you just need a quiet, sacred space to sit with all of it. Every Tuesday, we will open up the Sanctuary from 5:30-6:30 for quiet reflection, prayer, meditation, or soft conversation. At least one staff member or lay leader will be present at every Open Sanctuary Hour. Together, may we guide each other through the wilderness.

We are so incredibly fortunate to have our amazing playground structure for our kids and families to gather before and after church. All of this play, however, does require cleanup. We're going to talk about this in Little Chapel with the kids, but if your kids are playing on the playground, please encourage them to clean up the sand toys. Buckets for the toys are in the playground shed. It is the responsibility of EVERYONE to clean up the area. Thank you for helping your children learn to take on this responsibility for our community!
Full Week Faith plans are daily activities for families to work on together and within the community. Each week, you will find a family discussion question, a chalice lighting, a journal prompt, an activity, and more. Full Week Faith plans are meant as a jumping-off point for families to engage in faith development together!
Weekly guide to what's happening in every age group! Different age groups are separated by tabs at the bottom, so please make sure to look there for your age group.
