For more than six years, First Church has offered Full Week Faith as a way for families to stay connected to our values and one another throughout the year. This summer, we're excited to offer our most robust version yet. In addition to weekly themes and family activities, the 2026 edition includes local Salt Lake City adventures, outdoor exploration opportunities, conversation starters, chalice lightings, and simple practices designed to help families weave faith formation into everyday life all summer long.
Each week explores a theme rooted in our UU faith —Wonder, Community, Courage, Freedom, Curiosity, Kindness, Joy, and more. Rather than feeling like homework or another item on a busy to-do list, Full Week Faith offers simple invitations for connection: family conversation starters, chalice lightings, outdoor adventures, reflection prompts, and activities that can be adapted for children, youth, and adults alike.
While our younger children will encounter many of these same themes through Camp RE on Sunday mornings, participation in Camp RE is not required to enjoy Full Week Faith. The packet is designed to stand on its own as a family faith formation guide throughout the summer. Whether you're spending weekends at the church playground, camping in the mountains, visiting grandparents, or simply enjoying slower evenings at home, Full Week Faith offers opportunities to explore UU values together in ways that fit your family's life.
Our hope is that these resources help families discover that faith formation doesn't only happen in classrooms or on Sunday mornings. It happens around dinner tables, on walks through the neighborhood, during car rides, while reading stories together, and in the everyday moments when we pause to wonder, ask questions, show kindness, and connect with one another.

This summer, children in PreK–5th grade are invited to join us for Camp RE, our outdoor summer faith formation program held on the playground during Summer Forum. Each week, we'll gather for a story, conversation, a simple hands-on activity, and plenty of time for play, exploration, and friendship. Together, we'll explore themes like Wonder, Courage, Curiosity, Kindness, Joy, and Gratitude through picture books, creative activities, and shared experiences.
Whether your child joins us every week or just occasionally, Camp RE offers a welcoming space to build friendships, connect with UU values, and enjoy the gifts of summer together.
This Week at Camp RE: Wonder (June 14)
This week we'll explore the theme of Wonder through the book What Do You Do With an Idea? Together we'll celebrate curiosity, imagination, and the questions that help us see the world in new ways. Children will begin their summer Wonder Notebooks and help create our community banner.
Join us for our new monthly Community Dinner Nights! We’ll share a potluck meal, then break into multi-age activities: activities and games for kids, skill workshops for teens, and multiple programming groups for adults. Come for the food, stay for the connection!
We are looking to diversify our voices on Ritual Sundays, and would love children and youth volunteers to help as worship associates. We need musicians, singers, readers, greeters; any ways that you see an adult participate, a child or youth could as well. Look below for ways to start to participate!
Music: Does your child or youth play and instrument and would like to play a prelude? Or would they lilke to lead, "Come, Come"? Email David Owens to signup!
Chalice Lighting: Click Here to signup to light our chalice. Children or youth can bring their own chalice lighting words, or we can provide options!
Have something else your child or youth would like to helo with? Email Amanda Esko and let her know.
Do you like to jump in where you’re needed most? Our Sunday Superheroes are flexible helpers who fill in any gaps on Sunday mornings—whether that’s caring for little ones in the nursery, assisting in a classroom, or lending a hand wherever support is needed. Superheroes meet in the Little Chapel at 10:45 am to check in and find out where their superpowers will be most helpful that day. No cape required—just a willing spirit and a smile!
If you are in need of assistance or support during this time, please reach out in confidence to our Senior Minister, Rev. J Sylvan, at minister@slcuu.org, or to our Director of Religious Education, Amanda Esko, at dre@slcuu.org.
Full Week Faith plans are daily activities for families to work on together and within the community. Each week, you will find a family discussion question, a chalice lighting, a journal prompt, an activity, and more. Full Week Faith plans are meant as a jumping-off point for families to engage in faith development together!
