I'm a libertarian leftist and a social democrat - meaning that I support government intervention in the economy to protect workers in a mixed market economy, but not in the everyday lives of Americans. This is distinct from socialism - a mixed market is at its core a capitalism-based economy.
All that boils down to is that I care about workers and ordinary citizens first and foremost. All of my policies revolve around that value.
But these labels are not that important. instead here is my viewpoint on a range of issues:
Workers' rights
The working conditions of America's workers are insufficient. Workplace safety isn't high enough; neither is the minimum wage. Workers are being displaced by automation, and the government needs to move to address this, as I have done in my Funding the ETA Act - but this isn't enough. Concrete, systemic action that tackles the problem head on must be undertaken.
Healthcare
I am a strong supporter of universal, single-payer healthcare. The free market has not worked in this industry - under it, 50,000 people a year died due to not being able to afford medical fees, and hundreds of thousands went bankrupt for the same reason. Single-payer is the best way to cover everyone - it's better than a public option because it removes entirely the role of the rapacious mafia middleman that is the private health insurance industry. Appeals to 'choice' on this matter are akin to asking whether you'd rather be robbed by the Italian or Russian Mafia. Healthcare should be something non-negotiable, just like police and fire cover. Nobody asks whether you'd like your 'choice' of fire department!
The environment
Climate change is the greatest existential threat to humanity - greater government action must be taken. America must get to zero emissions as soon as possible - ideally by 2030. We need a Green New Deal and other radical action to get this done.
Foreign Policy
I believe that America should not intervene in the operation of other countries. Doing so has only led to ruin and trillions in wasted taxpayer dollars - in Iraq, in Venezuela, in Chile, in post-Soviet Russia, in Afghanistan, in Vietnam and so many more places. I've submitted the Condemning CIA Intervention Resolution to formally apologise to these countries for incidences like the reign of the dictatorial Pinochet in Chile due to American imperialism and intervention.
The 1%
The workers of Sierra and of America do not have enough power in this country. Instead, the corporate class has a stranglehold on our political system and our society. I support a wealth tax, and similar initiatives to alleviate that stranglehold while still allowing wealthy individuals to enjoy societal rewards for their immense success and wealth creation. I do not support direct middle-class tax hikes.
Military spending
I support proposed cuts to military spending. We spend more than the next ten countries on the military combined, at the expense of education, healthcare, infrastructure and more. I also support eliminating the draft and have submitted legislation to do so - forced military service is inhumane and cruel. However, I also highly respect those who have volunteered to serve - and those who have been forced to in the past. That's why I support greater help for veterans, economically and medically - including mental-health care.
