Milestone

The milestone on the main road in Crampmoor is a Grade II listed historical landmark dating back to the early 19th century.

Located by the side of the A3090 (historically known as the Straight Mile) roughly 25 metres northeast of its junction with Crampmoor Lane, it stands as a reminder of the area's coaching history.

Key Details:

• Design: The marker is made of early 19th-century painted stone featuring a prominent, flat-topped rectangular shape with a large cast-iron plate fixed to the front face.

• Inscription: The historic legend on the plate reads "Winton 9, Romsey 2", indicating it is situated 9 miles from Winchester (historically abbreviated as Winton) and 2 miles from Romsey.

• Heritage Status: It was officially granted Grade II listed status by Historic England on November 17, 1986, due to its special architectural and historical interest as an intact piece of transport infrastructure.
