The RDP Filipino Society aims to create a community for everyone to come together and share their culture, connect domestic and international Filipino students, promote a supportive community for new immigrants, and share, maintain, and introduce Filipino culture to the Red Deer Polytechnic community.
Common Questions
Of course! The Society is open to all current members of the Red Deer Polytechnic community including current domestic and international students. We welcome people from all cultures!
Thank you for your interest! Please send us an email at rdpfilipinosociety@gmail.com or a DM on Instagram (@RDPFilipinoSociety) to meet with one of the executive members and discuss your membership.
As established in the beginning of the academic year 2022–2023, the membership fee is $5. This fee covers your membership for 1 academic year.
Your membership fee covers the Fall and Winter semesters. The student group is not active during the Spring and Summer semesters.
If you paid for the Winter semester, your membership will not carry over to the Fall semester since it's the beginning of a new school year. The membership fee covers Fall and Winter in the same academic year.
We're a group of students who aim to provide support for fellow students as we share our culture.
The Society started in the Fall of 2022. So far, we've had a Christmas party where members got to invite their friends and families to play Filipino games and food, and win prizes. We brought the community together by inviting a Filipino band called The Last Minute Band and encouraged members to purchase potlucks from a list of private/independent Filipino food sellers. Apart from connecting the school community, we are also inviting external sources to make the Society known—that we exist to help.
We are collaborating with RDP International for Filipino Week, which will commence in the Winter 2023 semester. It's a week-long celebration of our culture and we're preparing exciting activities for the school community!
Great question! At the Society, we aim for members to get a genuine sense of Filipino community where friends and family play essential roles to our well-being. We also practice bayanihan throughout where people help each other out to achieve our goals.
You can meet with one of the executive councils to process your membership once you arrive in Canada.
The Society is open to current and enrolled Red Deer Polytechnic students.
