Year of Establishment : 1995

History of the department : The first appointed teacher was Dr. Satyabrata Sahoo in the Physics Department in its early days in 1997. Dr. Sahoo initiated a huge development in this department (specifically on the laboratory and departmental library) as well as in this college. Later Prof. Sankar Kumar Santra joined in 2009 as part-time teacher. In the next year 2010, two more faculty members joined: Prof. Chanchal Das and Prof. Swati Purkait. The department was impaired its enthusiastic operation since Dr. Sahoo left the college and became the Principal at Dhrubachand Halder College, Dakshin Barasat in 2012. However, the department become energized once again in 2017 when two more assistant professors Dr. Shreyasi Pal and Dr. Amitava Moitra joined.
