CNU Resilient Concrete Structures and Materials Laboratory (CRC Lab) at Chungnam National University (Director: Prof. Hyun-Oh Shin)
CRC Lab. at CNU leads cutting-edge research in the development and application of Ultra-High Performance Concrete (UHPC) and High-Performance Concrete (HPC), as well as innovative construction and curing technologies. The lab integrates experimental methods with microstructural analysis to systematically explore mix design, material property evaluation, and durability enhancement strategies for advanced concrete materials that go beyond conventional solutions. CRC Lab leverages state-of-the-art experimental facilities—including large-scale structural tests, drop-weight impact tests, shock tube experiments, and field blast tests—to precisely investigate the behavior of concrete structures under static, dynamic, seismic, impact, and explosive loads. These studies enable the development of innovative design and reinforcement techniques that maximize the impact resistance, blast resistance, and seismic performance of UHPC and fiber-reinforced concrete. In addition, the lab is pioneering rapid concrete curing technologies using high-frequency induction heating, with systems adaptable to field conditions through plate-type and turn-type induction coils. These approaches optimize concrete quality and strength development in cold climates or fast-paced construction scenarios, offering significant benefits such as reduced construction time, consistent quality, and improved energy efficiency. Through extensive industry-academia collaborations and national research projects, CRC Lab focuses on developing practical technologies that can be applied and validated in real infrastructure projects, generating both social and economic impact. The lab’s contributions to patent filings and technology transfer further strengthen the competitiveness of the concrete industry domestically and internationally. With a commitment to building safe and sustainable infrastructure for the future, CRC Lab continues to advance its world-class research capabilities in structural engineering and concrete materials, playing a vital role in enhancing disaster resilience, establishing social safety networks, and minimizing loss of life and property in national infrastructure.
