RCS seminar by those interested
日本語 / English
This seminar is a gathering of science-related those who are interested, mainly run by students (especially current and former students) associated with the Faculty of Science at Rikkyo University. The main aim is to reconstruct what each of us is interested in studying, to present it to people studying mathematics, physics and other disciplines, and to engage in friendly competition with each other. The seminar started as an independent seminar by students of the Department of Mathematics, Faculty of Science, Rikkyo University, but since the second year it has grown to a scale where students from other universities and working people from companies also participate.
We hope that speakers will use this seminar as a place to acquire the ability to speak in a way that communicates their own ideas and the theories of their predecessors to others, and to respond accurately to questions and opinions from the audience. The seminar aims to be a place where not only the speakers but also the audience can learn, and we welcome active questions and comments from the audience.
The name of the study group that meets regularly at this seminar was originally “理学部数学科合同勉強会”, but from the second meeting onwards many people from physics as well as mathematics attended, so the name was changed to “理学部数物合同勉強会” from the third meeting onwards. Although the name still includes the words “数物 (mathematics and physics)”, the number of participants from the humanities has increased since 2021, and lectures are given not only in scientific fields other than mathematics and physics, but also in fields such as linguistics, philosophy, literature and music. There will also be occasional discussions.
Since 2020, the main venue has been online, but before that we held face-to-face meetings in cooperation with Rikkyo University. We would like to express our sincere gratitude to Rikkyo University.
Dr Ken-ichi Sugiyama (Professor of Department of Mathematics, College of Science, Rikkyo University)
