USING PHENOMENA TO DRIVE INSTRUCTION

What are phenomena in science?

Natural phenomena are observable events that occur in the universe and that we can use our science knowledge to explain or predict.

Why are phenomena important in classroom instruction?

Anchoring instruction on phenomena allows students to seek answers by asking WHY or HOW.  Our goal is to shift from learning about  a topic to figuring out why or how something happens.
