about rchrdcrg

My name is Richard Craig, and I have been an amateur music producer since 1998. My focus has always been on doing my own thing, and over the years I have developed a unique style that people still to this day have a hard time categorizing. My music is anywhere from ambient chillout music to epic soundtracks to quirky and strange little songs, all with a unique electronic sound that is somehow modern yet harkens back to the digital music of the '80s and '90s.

This is largely due to my use of ModPlug Tracker as my one and only creation software. ModPlug Tracker is based off of the concept of tracker modules, a musical format that first gained popularity in the late '80s on Commodore Amiga computers. It is similar to MIDI except that all of the sound samples are stored within the music file itself. It's a very simplistic musical format that is easy to learn provided you have a good understanding of both music theory and computers in general. It often feels more like programming and less like writing music, but with over 20 years of experience in writing in this format, it has become second nature.

I'm also known for my video game remixes; these projects are some of my nearest and dearest as I have always appreciated the music in games ever since the days of the Commodore 64 and its phenomenal SID chip. Several of my remixes can be found on OCRemix.org. Some have even been used as background music in people's Youtube videos, with one video in particular having over 600,000 views.

Over the years I have gone by several pseudonyms, including rimco, Aurasil, Nomadius, and Cragman (I was 17 when I started doing music, so forgive the rather ridiculous names). Today, I simply go by rchrdcrg, my name with all of the vowels removed.

I hope you enjoy listening to the music I have put here. The songs are listed in the left sidebar with more added whenever I can find the time and motivation. Thank you for stopping by!
