The NCOC Instructors' Qualifying Course is designed to teach you how to perform the duties of an Instructor for the NCOC. Successful completion of the NCOC Instructor Course is recommended for all those currently holding or aspiring to hold this position. This position is very exciting as it gives you the opportunity to mentor the future NCOs of the Corps.
You will be tasked with marking the exams of NCO courses and providing feedback on their answers. After marking their exams, there are several other actions that must be taken that will be explained further on in this course.
Each lesson below will cover a different topic related to what a NCO Instructor must do in the performance of their duties.
Upon the receipt of an exam, the Senior Instructor will assign an instructor to deal with it via email and by posting in the NCOC Instructor WhatsApp group, providing details of the student, the course, and the exam. After being assigned to mark an exam, you will need to confirm that you are able to mark it in a timely fashion. At this point, you should start marking the exam as soon as you are able to.
Marking exams is a large part of your responsibilities as an instructor. You will be looking for correct answers as will as ensuring that they have completely answered the question in full. How many points you give for an answer will depend on how well they structure their answer to a question tied with your fair judgement. You should be looking to let the student know whether their answer was correct or not, as well as providing advice on how to improve on their answer. Feel free to write as much as you like; you should be looking to advance their understanding of the subject. Most exam questions are marked out of 10.
If you are marking an exam and you feel that you cannot understand the material, you are unsure of the question yourself, or just need help or perhaps a second opinion, don't hesitate to contact another instructor or the Senior Instructor. The NCOC Instructor cadre is a team!
Once you have marked each question on the exam, you will need to tally up all the marks for a final mark, and convert it as a percentage. Regardless of whether the exam is a pass or fail, you should then update the student's NCOC File, and place the submission in the appropriate folder within the NCOC Drive account.
Having completed marking the exam, you will need to let the student know their final mark. This is done by sending an email and informing them of their mark and whether they have passed or failed, followed by your individual marks and constructive comments for each question. This way, the student can see what questions they did well on and where they can improve on and get your constructive feedback on each question.
