Description:
This boat no. 06, is an artisan rendering and adaptation for a RC functional Artwork-Toy. I conceived, designed and hand built it. The hull is built like the real boats clinker style, using 1/32" thick hobby plywood as skin, bonded by glue to a solid wood frame material. The hull is painted with several coats of appliance epoxy to seal it. The outer coating for color is a brown enamel. The figures are all hand made to reflect that era's Vikings. The rowing action of the warriors is an illusion, i.e. not true to the oar handles motion. The oars are made out of two piece bamboo. A flex joint on the oars is incorporated to allow flexing on minor obstructions thus minimizing damage to the mechanism. The electro mechanicals are mounted on a brass chassis that can be lifted out for servicing. The design is an open architecture type so no secret parts. It can be replaced or serviced by a mechanically oriented person.
Being a shallow draft toy boat, the sail is for looks only as the boat is not made with a heavy keel to resist too much sail load. The propulsion is a brushed motor gear box. A Li-Po 2S battery powers it. The control is by FS-GT3C Ghz 3 Channel transmitter/receiver.
This boat is a great coffee table display and conversation piece as well as impressive functional boat in calm water. Not recommended for windy or rough wavy water. The steering system is a deviation from the real as I used a rudder because the real life system cannot steer it as quickly.
I am an inventor, artisan, engineer. I built this as a challenge. A second sister boat is in building progress, and I have other novelty boat designs.
The boat is about 32" long, 16" wide oar tips, 18" top of sail (removable), 10" top of dragon head.
A fine functional artwork for a boat enthusiast who has everything in this world.
RC Viking Boat with Rowers and RC
Viking Ship with Animated Rowers
General Data
It is not scaled model of any known ship.
It is about 33" long.
Hull is made of hobby plywood 1/32" thick, clinker style, with solid wood frame held together with glue.
It is coated with epoxy paint then final color of enamel.
The propulsion is from a brushed gearmotor powered by 2S Li-Po battery 1250 mAh.
Radio Control is by a pistol type 2.4 Ghz 3 channel system included.
It is a shallow draft boat hence easily overcome by winds. The sail is for looks only. It is ideal for ponds, swimming pool play provided calm water and not windy.
The boat has forward and reverse paddling. steering is shown via crew with paddle. But real steering is by rudder on a servo.
5 pairs of warrior rowers, two crew, and some weapons are included.
Play time is about 1 hour depending on how it is run.
I have no plans to make more of these boats in the future as it is a very difficult task. I did it to satisfy my technical and imagination power.
Consider it as an art work that is great static display but also a working boat exciting to see working in water.
